Mr. James Andrew "Jim" Barnes passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at his home in Winston-Salem. He was born August 21, 1925 in Boone to the late Stewart James and Ora Estella Coffey Barnes. He lived most of his life in Winston-Salem. From 1943 to 1946, James served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Olivet Moravian Church and for many years, he was a Sunday School teacher. He was also an acolyte at the church. Since 1946, he was a member and a past master of West Bend Masonic Lodge #434. Mr. Barnes was a third generation master beekeeper and in 1976 he joined the Forsyth County Beekeepers Association.
Mr. Charles William "Bill" Johnson, 69, went to be with God on Friday, October 10, 2008 following a courageous and inspiring life journey. Warmth and love radiated from Bill Johnson and he touched everyone he encountered. Though he will be deeply missed, the celebration of his life will go on through his many lovely gestures imprinted on the hearts of others. Bill was born in High Point to James Otto and Marjorie Ridge Johnson. He was raised on a dairy farm where he learned animal husbandry and a deep reverence for nature that lasted his whole life. He attended Draughan Business College and Davidson Community College.
The FCBA was well represented at the summer meeting of the NCSBA in Pinehurst, NC, July 10-12, 2008. NCSBA Treasurer Paul Madren awarded Brady and Mary Mullinax the McIver-Haus Award for more than 30 years of service to the state association. Dr. Buddy Marterre became 2nd Vice President of the NCSBA for 2009. Dr. Marterre received a blue ribbon for his photography. Elaine Styers also won several ribbons and lead a workshop.

Mr. Barry Colin Sheets, 59, of Lewisville passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Sheets was born in Forsyth County to Clarence W. and Margie Moser Sheets on Feb. 1, 1949. He was a member of South Fork Church of Christ and served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Sheets was a computer network administrator for Wake Forest Physicians. He will be remembered as a man with a multitude of talents and interests. A gathering to honor his life will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at South Fork Church of Christ, with Dr. Bill Allen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to South Fork Church of Christ, 205 Keating Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
